Hilary was born in Philadelphia but grew up in Marlton NJ. After completing secondary school, Hilary moved to Florence, Italy where he trained and completed various commissions. Hilary continued his studies at Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and was awarded his certificate in 2006. During his time at the Pennsylvania Academy, Hilary worked as a fine arts subcontractor for Commercial Church Painting Firms and focused his study of classical painting and drawing under two Philadelphia Fine Art masters: Anthony Visco and Patrick Conners. Upon graduating, Hilary worked as a mural restoration technician for a renowned studio in New York City.

In 2007, Hilary began Studio Hilary. Combined with Hilary’s classical training and working method, projects are completed with an understanding of the client's needs and respect for the environment in which the the work is installed. Hilary has experience working in a variety of venues including mansions, private residences of various sizes, churches, luxury hotels and commercial office spaces. Hilary executes many paintings from his Philadelphia studio.
